Education                 Two years.  Honorary master's degrees from Harvard and Yale.  Honorary
                                doctor's degrees from University of St. Andrews and Oxford.

Experience               1716-18    Made soap and candles in my father's shop
                               1718-23    Learned the printing trade while apprenticed to brother
                               1723-28    Journeyman printer
                               1728-48    Business owner:  Made a fortune as a printer, publisher, postmaster,
                                                store proprietor.
                               1748-90    Retirement:  Performed scientific experiments, invented things, helped
                                                my community and country in various ways.

Achievements          Taught myself to read
                               Taught myself to write well
                               Rose from poverty to great wealth by developing skills as a printer, writer,
                                     and businessman.             
                                Started the first library in America
                                Started a hospital for the sick and insane
                                Founded the University of Pennsylvania                     
                                First Postmaster           
                                Proved that lightning was electricity
                                Numerous handy inventions including bifocal eyeglasses, lightning rod,
                                     Franklin stove                  
                                Got the Stamp Act repealed       
                                Helped win the Revolutionary War through diplomatic efforts abroad
                                Negotiated and won an advantageous peace treaty with England
                                President of Pennsylvania
